About the Project

Under Education Code Section 17406, Lease-Buy Back, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) the $85 million, 200,000-SF, Phase 1 project was a two-level, Kindergarten through 3rd Grade school building with 825 seats. It included a central utility plant that services the complete K-12 campus. The project also included a two-level post-tension cast-in-place parking structure for 320 vehicles with playfields on the upper deck. The playfields were part of Phase II of the Ambassador Learning Center that was also constructed by Hensel Phelps. With Phase I and Phase II construction costs of 390 million dollars, the second largest school district in the country spared no expense to preserve the historically-significant elements of the legendary Ambassador Hotel and its amenities and includes an academic program that offers core curriculum instruction that commemorates Robert F. Kennedy.
