The Future Is What We Build It

Hensel Phelps has goals associated with sustainability, our people and governance. We focus on strategies to reduce carbon at our project sites and offices. At the same time, we are actively working to reduce water use, increase waste diversion, select healthy and sustainable materials and support the wellness of our employees. We have also set annual performance goals for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Community (DEIc), recruiting and retention, training, supplier diversity, community involvement, cybersecurity, AI governance and many others.  For more information about our programs, please contact Mark Rothman.

Carbon Reduction

Our carbon reduction goals extend beyond our fleet and owned regional offices to our project sites. Hensel Phelps is dedicated to reducing the carbon emissions of our operations by:

Tracking scope 1,2 and 3 emissions

Increasing the ratio of hybrid and electric vehicles in our fleet

Adding EV charging stations where needed

Developing a carbon reduction management plan

Materials

As a builder, the quality of the materials we use is paramount. Prioritizing concrete and steel, among other materials, Hensel Phelps has established processes to vet the Global Warming Potential (GWP) of materials early in design and during procurement. We recently deployed technology that allows our clients and design teams to choose products based on the materials’ Global Warming Potential.

Jobsite Wellness

We are dedicated to championing jobsite wellness and ensuring that our jobsite wellness plans address air, nourishment, hygiene, fitness, mental health and severe weather exposure.

Waste Management

Hensel Phelps is among the first in the industry to separate and divert waste on jobsites. We strive to track and reduce construction and demolition waste on all projects, with a goal of 50% waste diversion across the enterprise.

Water Management

Hensel Phelps supports responsible water use and recognizes that reducing water use is an important sustainability goal.

“Hensel Phelps has developed a reputation for conducting business responsibly, ethically, socially, economically and environmentally. We prioritize sustainability at the foundation of all our operations, from our offices to our jobsites.”
