United Airlines Terminal C & E Baggage Handling System

About the Project

United Airlines is upgrading the baggage system at Terminal C and E to make it faster and more efficient. This $102.9 million project covers 422,070 square feet, including three new baggage drop-off canopies, a modern bag control room, a screening area for oversized luggage, and a high-tech Early Baggage System. These improvements help move bags more smoothly without needing to expand the airport.

The project team included Hensel Phelps as the Construction Manager-at-Risk, Siemens as the baggage system design-builder, and PGAL as the architect. The work was completed in five phases to keep the airport running throughout construction. Even during the upgrades, the system handled about 35,000 bags every day.
