About the Project
The Orthopedic Hospital Medical Magnet High School is located in Los Angeles, California. Students from the entire district that have an interest in the medical and science fields can apply for enrollment in the school. With a capacity of 800 students, the high school is located on property adjacent to the Orthopedic Hospital that was donated by the Hospital.
Hensel Phelps Development completed the development and construction of the new Orthopaedic Hospital Medical Magnet High School for the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). The project was awarded under a new “17406” contracting approach by the Los Angeles Unified School District, in which Hensel Phelps Development was responsible for providing construction financing for the project, and upon completion, selling the project back to LAUSD. This project demonstrated Hensel Phelps Development’s strengths and expertise in the areas of Development, Project Financing, P3 – Public Private Partnerships, and Project Management / Owner’s Representation.
The staff at the Hospital provides teaching assistance to the students. Two two-story buildings make up the project. The basketball and volleyball courts are also located between the buildings. The project includes a large multipurpose room, cafeteria, media center, bookstore, administration offices, weight room and 32 classrooms.
