About the Project
Hensel Phelps provided preconstruction and construction services on the Kaiser Permanente Springfield Replacement Medical Office Building (MOB) project. The project included demolishing an office building and building a new MOB in its place. The project was completed on a site with limited space. The site was adjacent to Kaiser Permanente’s previous facility. The previous facility continued operating during the construction of the new MOB nearby. This required careful coordination during construction to avoid disruptions to ongoing operations.
When the new MOB was complete, Kaiser Permanente transferred its personnel from the previous facility to the new MOB. The previous facility was then demolished and became a new surface parking area. The MOB includes three outpatient clinics, a nurse’s clinic, a clinical lab and a pharmacy. It includes imaging, vision essentials and physical therapy departments.
The new MOB followed Kaiser Permanente’s Center of Excellence (COE) program template. The template is applied to Kaiser’s facilities nationwide. Each Kaiser Permanente facility is based on the same design and includes modifications as needed. This creates familiar and consistent facilities for Kaiser Permanente patients across the country. It also creates efficiency in construction and construction processes.
