In Spring 2026, Hensel Phelps brought more than 150 members of Hawaii’s building community together for a Partner Appreciation Event in Honolulu. The event was an opportunity to step away from jobsites and offices, strengthen relationships and recognize the many owners, designers and trade partners who contribute to our shared success.
Throughout the evening, longtime collaborators reconnected while others had the opportunity to meet face-to-face for the first time, creating new connections across Hawaii’s architecture, engineering and construction community.
Recognizing Excellence in Safety and Quality
A highlight of the evening was recognizing trade partners whose leadership and performance exemplify excellence in safety and quality. Each recipient was presented with a leiomano, or “shark’s lei,” a Hawaiian club traditionally lined with shark teeth. Among its many meanings, the leiomano represents leadership and the ability to overcome difficult obstacles—qualities that reflect the commitment required to deliver exceptional safety and quality in our industry.
Safety Excellence Award
The Safety Excellence Award recognized trade partners for their commitment to proactive hazard recognition, thoughtful pre-task planning, field collaboration and leadership that positively influences the teams around them. Congratulations to DN Tanks, The Zelinsky Company and Helix Electrical.
Quality Excellence Award
The Quality Excellence Award recognized trade partners for their technical expertise, preparation, workmanship and attention to detail. Their consistent engagement throughout the construction process helps our teams deliver successful projects and lasting value for our clients. Congratulations to Dorvin D. Leis Co., Inc., Electro Test and PMJ Builders.
A Toast to Hawaii’s Builders
Hensel Phelps collaborated with Hana Koa to create a custom golden ale exclusively for the event, working together on everything from the flavor to the label design and name.
The message on the label captured what the evening was all about: Across Hawaii, builders, designers, owners and trade partners work together to create the homes, hospitals, roads and infrastructure that keep our islands moving. It takes teamwork, creativity and plenty of problem-solving to overcome the unique challenges of building in paradise. So, let’s raise a glass to the crews who build Hawaii’s future, one project at a time. Cheers to our Builders!
