About the Project
The Kaneohe-Kailua Tunnel Influent Facility, built at the Kaneohe Wastewater Pre-Treatment Facility, was the third and final phase of the City and County of Honolulu’s Kaneohe-Kailua Wastewater Conveyance and Treatment Facilities project.
The 17 MGD project includes the construction of a new generator and electrical building, odor control facilities and connecting underground pipelines and utilities. The facility provides a complete, functional process control system (PCS), including the supply, installation and calibration of the control system network, instrumentation and signal systems. The project included structural finishing, mechanical, architectural, electrical, and instrumentation work on diversion, drop, and junction structures for the new conveyance tunnel. To ensure the City met a U.S. EPA consent decree, Hensel Phelps also assisted with tunnel work, installing fiberglass to seal tunnel ports and joints.
Watch a short video featuring interviews with key project leaders, including a Hensel Phelps operations manager, a city department director and the mayor, as they discuss progress and goals.
