About the Project

The $254 million Dulles Railyard and Maintenance Facility will service the Silver Line extension on the DC Metropolitan area public transit system, housing over 220 cars during off-peak and off-hour times. Located on the grounds of Washington Dulles International Airport in Loudoun County, Virginia, the 95-acre site features almost nine miles of track extension and six buildings, each serving a unique purpose to the overall operation and maintenance of the Metro. These buildings include the Service and Inspection Building, the Maintenance of Way Building, the Train Wash Facility, Warehouse Building, Vehicle Storage Building, and Transportation and Police Building. This is the third railyard facility that Hensel Phelps’ Mid Atlantic District has worked on in the past 10 years, and our ninth project on the Dulles Airport property.
