About the Project
The $107 million U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service/Washington State University (ARS/WSU) Bioscience Research Building will provide state-of-the-art research space to promote collaboration between one of the strongest federal-state research partnerships in the nation. At this new 96,368 SF facility, USDA-ARS scientists will work side-by-side with university faculty in labs, farms and research stations across the state to fight crop diseases, develop improved crop varieties and train the next generation of plant and soil scientists at WSU.
The Bioscience Research Building will foster and enhance this partnership by providing cutting-edge research space that supports vital, specialized missions ranging from typical micro/molecular biology to plant/soil studies and other research-focused work in shared laboratories. The laboratories are designed utilizing a Laboratory Typology Approach which utilizes a flexible and modular approach to allow space to change and adapt to the needs of the research groups over time.
A key feature of the building is a pedestrian bridge that connects the new facility to the existing Plant Sciences (REC5) Building. The bridge crosses the main building and lines up with the REC5 campus pathway, making it easier for people to move between buildings and programs across the research area. This design also allows the pathway to connect to future buildings, helping support long-term growth and collaboration within the research community.
