About the Project
Hensel Phelps and G70 are collaborating on the design-build $31.6 million 17,500-square-foot Regional Kitchen – North Central Oahu project. Located in Wahiawa, the innovative regional kitchen is the first of its kind in Hawaii and is at the leading edge of a statewide effort to modernize school food service and enable a smarter, more efficient way to provide healthier food for students. The Hawaii Department of Education (DOE)’s new facility will produce a minimum of 9,000 meals per day for schools in the Leilehua, Mililani and Waialua Complex areas. The kitchen facility consists of various zones for meal cooking, preparation, assembly, storage, loading and utility. The project also includes an employee area which features a multi-purpose staff room, conference room, restroom, lockers and offices.
Located adjacent to Agribusiness Development Corporation Food Hub facilities, the project supports the statewide goal of serving 30% locally sourced food in public schools by 2030. The facility is designed and constructed to allow for future expansion.
