Pentagon Renovation Wedges 2-5 Receives Industry Awards

Tuesday April 16, 2013

The success of the Pentagon Renovation Wedges 2-5 project has been recognized by many industry agencies, and Hensel Phelps has received many awards in recognition of that success. These include:

2011 National DBIA award for “Best Overall Project”
2011 National DBIA award for “Rehabilitation/Renovation/Restoration”
2011 ENR Southeast “Region’s Best Project”
2011 ABC Metro Excellence in Construction “Mega Project”
2012 AGC Alliant Build America “Silver Beam” Award for Design-Build
2012 AGC Alliant Build America “Grand Award – Project of the Year”

The last two awards listed are perhaps the most prestigious as they are known as the industry’s “Oscars.” At the AGC’s 93rd Annual Convention at the Alliant Build America awards dinner, Hensel Phelps was presented with the 2012 Alliant Build America “Silver Beam” award for design-build and the overall “Grand Award – Project of the Year.”

Mr. Lee Evey (former program manager for the Pentagon Renovation & Construction Office) delivered a presentation on the design-build delivery method utilized on the Pentagon. During his presentation, he explained how “design-build saves time and money and enhances the quality of an end product. He also mentioned that the success of the design-build delivery method is dependent on how much you can trust your partners—if you have a general contractor like Hensel Phelps, you can easily develop trust.” Hensel Phelps is proud to have Mr. Evey express his satisfaction with our services as he was the pioneer for utilizing the design-build delivery method on this high-profile project that includes significant mission critical components. It was essential for the first design-build federal project to be a success…and it was!
