Hensel Phelps attended the official groundbreaking ceremony of the brand-new Building 28 at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU APL) campus in Laurel, Maryland. Building 28 will provide the space and resources necessary for the campus’ evolving employee population, program needs and regulatory requirements. The construction of Building 28 includes a 400,000 SF science and technology building with electronic data laboratories, offices, food services and an auditorium. The project will be delivered under a CM at Risk project delivery method. It will serve as a vital link between buildings in the northern section of the campus, aligning seamlessly with the JHU APL’s emphasis on agility, connectivity and identity in the campus’ master plan.
Regional Vice President David Brooke spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony on behalf of Hensel Phelps. Hensel Phelps’ scope of work includes constructing ICD705-1 Special Security Areas and a flexible and energy efficient 3 MW data center with N+1 redundancy. The project scope also includes constructing exterior utility yards for Building 28 and the data center.
