Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport Sky Train Stage 2

About the Project

Hensel Phelps provided Construction Manager at Risk services for the Sky Train Stage 2 project, completing the airport’s automated people mover system. This phase extended the train from Terminal 3 to the Rental Car Center, offering seamless connectivity across Sky Harbor—from parking and pick-up areas to Terminals 3 and 4.

Building on the success of Stage 1, which delivered the original fixed facilities, Stage 2 added a 2.5-mile guideway with elevated, at-grade, and below-grade segments, plus two new stations: 24th Street Station, serving economy parking and public transit and the Rental Car Center Station, linking directly to rental services.

Working within an active airport, the Hensel Phelps team expertly managed complex logistics, coordinated with multiple stakeholders and maintained safety and efficiency, delivering a transformative transit solution that enhanced passenger mobility and airport operations.
