Sustainability
Hensel Phelps is actively involved in a variety of projects that include sustainable design and construction and is a leader in the development of initiatives and technologies that support the Greening of the Government. The projects that Hensel Phelps is directly involved with are of a design-build nature, where Hensel Phelps has been an active participant in the evaluation and promotion of Green Building strategies, as well as the design/bid/build method, which requires a partnership among the owner, architect and Hensel Phelps to apply Build Green initiatives to the project. “Green” strategies have been incorporated into the projects from the commencement of demolition of existing buildings through the operation and maintenance of new facilities.
Awards
Construction excellence is Hensel Phelps’ underlying motivation
during the entire building process. This construction excellence
is reflected by the numerous awards presented to Hensel Phelps.
Among these awards are the prestigious Associated General Contractors
Build America Awards, the Associated General Contractors Marvin
M. Black Excellence in Partnering Awards, and the National Design-Build
Awards presented by the Design-Build Institute of America.
Hensel Phelps has received six Associated General Contractors Build
America Awards which are given in recognition of excellence in the
construction industry. Voted upon by other contractors, these Build
America Awards are considered to be the Construction Industry’s
“Oscars.” The following projects were the recipient
of these awards:

Hensel Phelps’ history of AGC Marvin M. Black Excellence
in Partnering Awards, given for vigorously upholding the tenets

Since 1996, the Design-Build Institute of America has selected
the most outstanding design-build projects throughout the United
States that demonstrate the successful application of the design-build
principles and recognize the use and efficacy of design-build as
a project delivery method. Hensel Phelps has been the proud recipient
of four National Design-Build Awards and five Design-Build Excellence
Awards since the inception of this design-build competition for
the following projects:
