Mid-Atlantic District

The Mid-Atlantic District consistently contributes to Hensel Phelps’ status as a nationally known recommended partner.

With revenues exceeding $750 million annually, Hensel Phelps’ Mid-Atlantic District is one of the largest general contractors in the Washington metropolitan area, providing exceptional service to public, private and government sectors. The management approach is modeled from the corporate foundation and facilitates partnering, proactive problem resolution and exceptional fast-track scheduling capabilities—ultimately resulting in timely completion and overall client and end-user satisfaction.

The combination of projects—offered from each of the districts coast-to-coast—gives the Hensel Phelps’ portfolio its diversity. The Mid-Atlantic District attributes to our diverse portfolio with over $6.9 billion worth of completed projects. Some of the district’s most notable projects include:

Fast-Track Project Experience

The Equinix Data Center 5 (DC5) project, located in the Dulles Corridor is a 100,000 square foot mission-critical data center with over 11 miles of conduit, 400 tons of steel and 95 miles of cable—all put in place in just eight-months. Off the heels of DC5, and with the same tenacious schedule the Eastern Division was awarded the Equinix DC6—a three-story, 148,700 square foot mission-critical state-of-the-art Data Center.

Highly Sophisticated Construction

The Pentagon Renovation Wedges 2-5 project is a phased design-build renovation of our country’s Military Headquarters. With implementation of the Hensel Phelps’ scheduling capabilities and phased construction experience this project has been turned over on-time consistently—wedge by wedge.

Class-A Office Space Experience

The Towers Crescent Building F—located in the heart of Tyson’s Corner, Virginia—makes an impact on the skyline of one of the leading business centers in the nation and offers an ornamental steel roof crown; an ornamental aluminum spire, and a beautifully decorated interior. The Mount Vernon Place office building in Washington, DC offers over 88,000 square feet of very distinctive features and high-end finishes.

Renovation Experience

Set on a 200-acre complex outside Baltimore, Maryland, the 1.2 million square foot Social Security Administration (SSA) Operations Building was the Mid-Atlantic District’s third project on the SSA Woodlawn campus. The repair and alteration of this administrative office building was a critical component of the overall master plan to modernize the complex’s aging building. Additional renovation projects include; the third oldest building in DC—the Donald W. Reynolds Center for American Art and Portraiture and the centerpiece of Historic Judiciary Square –the DC Court of Appeals Renovation and Addition.

DoD Experience

Specializing in the unique requirements of enhanced security, anti-terrorism / force protection, quality control / assurance, commissioning and federal small business subcontracting initiatives the Mid-Atlantic District’s portfolio contains such projects as: The design-build Military Department (MILDEP) Investigative Headquarters at the Quantico MCB in Virginia; the FORSCOM / USARC Combined Headquarters in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; the Wesley A. Brown Field House at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland and the Defense Information Systems Agencies (DISA) Headquarters in Ft. Meade, Maryland name just a few of the impressive projects for federal agencies.

As the Mid-Atlantic District’s portfolio grows, so does the passion for promoting local small business communities. Hensel Phelps is repeatedly recognized by prominent small business leaders.

Since you have arrived and changed the way major construction projects are procured with 30-40% minority participation, all of your major competitors are trying to copy you.
